Restaurant Retractable Roof: The Potting Shed, Bingley
Brief:
As part of a multi-million pound refurbishment, converting a historic West Yorkshire building into vibrant brand ‘The Potting Shed’, was given a complete makeover both inside and out. A key part of the new business strategy was to maximise the outside spaces and accompanying views for use all year round.
Survey:
James Robertshaw’s design and planning team drew on its extensive experience of working within the hospitality and leisure industry to create a dual solution: a stunning 84 square meter W-Series automated pergola to offer total weather protection for the rooftop garden; and a show-stopping 8 meter x 7 meter P-Series parasol, complete with branding, to cover the entire outside bench area when needed.
Installation:
The automated W-Series pergola is integrated with bi-folding windows, heaters, air-conditioning and lighting to create an elegant weather-sealed room during winter months – or rainy summers! But when the sun shines and the temperature heats up, the roof and walls can be completely retracted to give customers the al-fresco experience they crave. This control means customers can enjoy the wonderful views all year round. Full installation and project sign off was completed within 5 working days, with the business remaining fully operation during this period.
Result:
Downstairs in the main courtyard, the control and flexibility continues with the giant 56 square meter parasol. Engineered to the highest strengths and wind-resistance, the waterproof material means customers have a dry, shaded place to eat and drink even on those drizzly days and winter nights. Accompanied by high-power heaters, it provides total protection whilst maintaining the traditional beer garden atmosphere.
